We currently have a requirement for an Production / Operations Interim professional to join a global manufacturing company in Preston.

Our client has recently undertaken a project to consolidate plant and equipment from two factories into one. Due to delays in commissioning caused by the pandemic co-coinciding with a rapidly growing order book, this has recently put some undue pressure and a backlog in a key welding/fabrication area of the plant.

The Interim Production / Operations Manager will provide additional support to the department by developing and implementing manufacturing strategies to improve KPI's.

We are looking to recruit a results driven, change agent who is able to come in and quickly help stabilise the manufacturing process, increase quality and boost output.

Key Tasks:

  • Develop and implement a strategy to maximise manufacturing and deliver improvements in Safety, Quality, On Time Delivery, Lead Time and Labour Productivity
  • Lead and further develop lean manufacturing activities and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Select and deploy operational improvement tools to deliver improved performance; 5s, Standard Work, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, Right First Time..
  • Supervise, coach, develop and provide strong leadership and direction to Production Team. Act as conduit to shorten learning curve of Managers, Supervisors & Operators
  • Continuously challenge, identify and act on opportunities for improvement and cost reduction
  • Ensure effective communications in support of cultural change
  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Planning and Logistics to generate a build plan in line with demand
  • Support delivery of budgets and identify capital investment requirements
  • Ensure H&S procedures are adhered to at all times

Key requirements:

  • Experienced Production/ Operations Manager from a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of welding, fabrication, machining processes - essential
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Continuous Improvement Techniques
  • Financial experience; budgets, cost reduction, scrap reduction, forecast
  • Strong man management and leadership skills
  • Able to define a strategy, develop an action plan and implement
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Self-motivated and good problem solver
  • Well organised with high attention to detail
