The role:

My client, an international supplier of specialist apparatus used in the telecoms and specialist applications for MOD, are looking to recruit a Quality Testing Specialist for their site based in Leigh.

The role objective is to perform testing on raw materials, completed products and product samples in the Quality department, ensuring all Quality Control processes and improvements are followed in an efficient, effective, and economic manner, to validate products manufactured to specification.

You will also be tasked with collecting, organising, identifying, and storing samples both before, during and after testing under suitable conditions to avoid any unintentional deterioration and to ensure their rapid and efficient retrieval.

Testing includes physical measurements, mechanical testing, rheology, and fire characterisation testing.

Those interested must have hands on experience of completing specific testing such as the following:

Physical testing

• Dimensional- micrometer, digital microscope
• Force measurement, tensile, elongation, tear, strip force- tensile testing machine with extensometer
• Sample preparation- stripping, skiving, punching test samples
• Physical abuse testing - bend, scrap abrasion, dynamic cut through, torsion, fluid resistance
• Plating thickness testing

Environmental testing

• Exposure to heat and cold testing
• Accelerated weathering- UV, humidity testing
• Exposure to fire testing

Analytical testing

• Thermal analysis- DSC (differential scanning calorimetry), TGA (thermogravimetric analysis)

Electrical

• Voltage withstands
• Resistance

The ideal candidate:

This role would also suit a newly qualified graduate in a materials technology, science or engineering discipline

To be considered, you must have experience of the above testing techniques along side the below expectations:

• RVQ level 5 and/or experience in a materials, chemistry or engineering science discipline is preferable
• Knowledge of best practice test methodologies
• Experience in cables and cable manufacturing would be a distinct advantage
