Import / Export Specialist

At the forefront of innovation, my client is a global manufacturer of glass components who is looking to secure an Import/Export specialist for their logistics and supplier chain team

Reporting directly into the head of Purchase and Supplier chain, working within a busy Shipping team, the candidate will possess experience with both Imports/Exports, possess excellent communication skills and have an all-round knowledge of the Import/Export logistics business.

The successful candidates will be responsible for Coordination of the import and export logistics and customs clearance process, completing export declarations independently and efficiently.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Working with Government's CHIEF / NCTS customs system to ensure entries are added correctly.
  • Training new/existing employees on import and export declaration processes.
  • Provide knowledge of customs clearance for specific variations on company's imports and exports from and to the EU and the rest of the world.
  • Ensuring Commodity Codes set up on operating system are correct for new and existing products.
  • Interact with customs authorities to address any issues/questions arising during the clearing.
  • Attend any customs inspections or present documents to customs authorities when such are requested.
  • Act as the liaison between the customs authorities (or other government agencies and customers).
  • Ensure timely customs clearance of cargo to customer for Import.
  • Verify documents received for Import customs purposes are compliant and correct.
  • Assistance and liaison during customs audits and reviews.
  • Advise operational colleagues of any shipments that are on hold and of any warehouse or transport issues.
  • Looking for opportunities for process improvements, implementing these where necessary.
  • Complete and update knowledge of customs clearance procedures.
  • Any other administration duties required by the manager.

The candidate:

  • Complete working knowledge of the entire logistics import/export process including experience of the completion of Export declarations.
  • Knowledge of post Brexit customs changes.
  • Knowledge of HMRC via either CHIEF, NCTS or inhouse systems.
  • Working knowledge of Descartes e-Customs system or similar is highly advantageous
  • Experience of working with freight forwarders shipping containers and trailers
  • Successful applications MUST have recent customs clearance experience.
