American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) is a $6bn+ global leader in the design, engineering, validation and manufacturing of driveline, metal forming, powertrain and casting technologies for automotive, commercial and industrial markets. AAM has over 90 facilities in 17 countries to support customers on both global and regional platforms with a focus on quality, operational excellence and technology leadership. In April 2017, AAM announced that it had completed the acquisition of Metaldyne Performance Group Inc. “It was a historic day that combined the strengths of both AAM and MPG into a premier, Tier 1 automotive supplier with broader capabilities across multiple product lines,” said David Dauch, AAM’s Halifax Manufacturing Facility (previously Metaldyne) was part of this acquisition. AAM Halifax specialises in the design, manufacture and supply of torsional vibration dampers for a customer portfolio of prestigious, international OEMs. Part of AAM’s Powertrain business unit, their product is fundamental in the growing engine fuel economy/emission targets and hybridisation. More than twelve months from the acquisition, Halifax continues to power forward, with new awards from existing and new customers. There is a planned 75% growth in volume by 2020 and a major investment from AAM, including £2.5m high speed automated line. |
To underpin this growth, Keith Eagle, (Managing Director of AAM), has renewed the contract for a further 2 years with Morgan Ryder Outsourced Services (part of Morgan Ryder Associates) who has been delivering integrated recruitment support to the operation for over 10 years.
Keith Eagle said, “Morgan Ryder will be providing a diverse range of strategic and operational support, allowing our leaders to focus on developing our people and maintaining operational excellence. The UK is facing the worst skills shortage since records began and it is imperative that we are correctly aligned with the market and that our employer brand remains stronger than ever.
We recognise that growth is not just about new equipment, it’s also about having suitably skilled and experienced people, identified and ready before they are required. We also recognise that it is important to develop homegrown talent, those that are already here, performing well and have potential to do more. So, a strong training and development programme has been created which is supported by college-based learning. Additionally, we have established an Associate Forum to communicate business plans and engage colleagues. As part of the AAM global organisation, there are now many exciting career paths here and across the wider AAM family of facilities.”
Terry Murphy (Director of Morgan Ryder) said, “This is fantastic news for Morgan Ryder. Whilst we have worked with the Halifax operation for over a decade and have been delivering Outsourced Recruitment Services continually for the last 8 years, this is our first contract with AAM directly. What a fantastic, forward thinking business.”
